Welcome to the Eviama Life Spa!

I recently had the opportunity to check out the new home of the Eviama Life Spa. The Eviama Life Spa just moved to Midtown Village from its former home on 16th Street. Eviama Life Spa is the first organic spa, and prides itself on its "'whole picture' approach [which] means we consider your life experience, temperament, self esteem, health inheritance and health investment, environmental influences, lifestyle, and what it means to you to feel beautiful."

Owner, Penny Eviama and JRochelle
The Eviama Life Spa offers massages, facials, meditation, and waxing services, as well as a boutique of clothing, accessories, skincare products and beauty products by Dr. Haruschka for pregnant women, children and adults.

The representative from Dr. Haruschka was gracious enough to offer us all products to try at home. I received a lovely sample of the foundation and the Lavender Bath. I can't wait to try them out!

This new location in Midtown is such a great space, with a great energy, and very calming decor. The staff that we met were so warm and welcoming, especially Cassandra the massage therapist! She was so passionate about the Ashiatsu massage that my sister and I had to book one! She claims that this service is so relaxing that you "feel like you're drunk". I will certainly let you know if that is true!

I had such a great time exploring this spa and the Eviama Life Spa is still celebrating its arrival to 13th Street. RSVP for the Grand Opening on May 3rd here.

New Adventures in Beauty

After checking out this contouring stuff,  I did what I do best...some reading! I really like Bobbi Brown's products and I have heard nothing but great things about the Kevyn Aucoin books, so I started with those.

These books are available at and Barnes& Noble as well as your local library! Check here and here. Bobbi Brown's book is also available for Nook and Kindle.

I learned some great tips and made a mental list of items to complete my "makeup arsenal". I also checked out a few other blogs, signed up for company websites and subscribed for a few beauty sample subscriptions.  Stay tuned for what happens next!

The Secret to Contouring Unlocked...Partially

RuPaul's Drag Race, Braxton Family Values, and all of the Kardashian shows all have something in common. Watching these ladies on show off their fierce faces for season after season has inspired me to take my makeup game to a new level...contouring.

Contouring can create a different version of your face by adding highlights and definition to create a more dramatic look or at it's best transform a man into a woman. I love experimenting with makeup and colors and brushes, but my makeup application has been limited to my eyes and lips. I also have very very sensitive that also suffers from eczema from time to time, so I don't experiment with different brands. I have been a loyal consumer of MAC products for about ten years and occasionally add products by Nars, Bobbi Brown and Trish McEvoy.

I took the plunge and watched a video tutorial all the way through and actually applied some of the tips.  Somehow I watched this video from Refinery29 and ended up with a completely different process, but it works for me. Ever time I take the extra step of adding blush and bronzer, I manage to get compliments from everyone; co-workers, friends, even strangers.

Good luck with contouring and highlighting! Don't forget to comment or add a link to your photos; I'd love to see your work!

You'd Better Werk...Out

So many of you know I have been on a mission to lower my cholesterol level. I took a multi pronged approach. I joined a gym, visited a nutritionist, met with a pulmonologist to make sure my asthma wouldn't be an issue, adjusted my eating habits and began walking to work. I am pleased to announce that after the first six weeks I lost 7 pounds!!! This was a happy side effect of making my heart healthier.

Unfortunately, I've lost a little bit of steam; walking to work every day slowly slipped to 2 days and now I can't remember the last time I walked. I kept a food journal for the month of February, and have since abandoned that too.

But there are some lasting changes, I have increased my fiber intake and my water intake, I attend 2-3 mat Pilates classes per week, attend this kick butt cardio/weight circuit class once a week and aim for two cardio days/week. It has been hard to adjust my workouts around my work schedule, but I have been able to manage.

Now onto the important stuff workout gear!!! If you've been following me on Twitter you know that that I recently found the Holy Grail of fitness gear, The LULULEMON SALE RACK. LuluLemon Athletica recently hit the news for their bad batch of see-through leggings but everyone at my gym still rocks their gear. Lululemon items do come at a high price, but their products are comfortable yet fashionable. This brand is great in my eyes. They offer excellent customer service and a ease of shopping, bottoms are displayed in attractive little floor to ceiling cubbies sorted by both style and size, plus the brand presents itself as a lifestyle brand. Eco friendly re-usable shopping bags, local running clubs and yoga demos, in-store water fountains and your name on the dressing room door make shopping a special experience.

This pot of gold reminded me that I had not yet prepared for the spring/summer season. If this summer is anything like last summer, it will be way too hot to attempt to incorporate workout tops or leggings into my work outfits, so I needed to go shopping. I approached this "challenge" like I do the rest of my wardrobe, mixing low end and high end pieces in a wide array of colors and textures. So I checked out City Sport, Athleta, American Apparel, Target and of course TJ Maxx. I searched both HMs for this collection, to no avail.

I picked up a a highlighter yellow Nike sports bra, a patterned gym bag by Mossimo and C9 by Champion shorts and sports bras, shorts, sports bra and tops with built in bras by MPG Sports. I thought my wardrobe was complete, but I just got this email from Free People, so I may have to add a few items...

La Dolce Vita at Boyds Philadelphia

Where else can you attend a party where you are greeted by a Lamborghini parked outside the front door; have opera singers spontaneously serenade you, enjoy delicious antipasti, Capogiro gelato and gorgeous designs by Italian and other luxury designers?

Creamy Limoncello shots served in clever?!

Creamy Limoncello

The beverage sponsor for the night was 2Nite: A Premium Italian Vodka.

After taking in the festivities downstairs, I headed upstairs to the women's section and coincidentally where the desserts were located, and two bars. Prosecco, mixed drinks, cannolis, gelato, and beautiful clothing, what more could a girl ask for?

The view of the party in the men's section from the glass floor of the women's section.

I forgot to mention that when I entered the door, I was given a $50 coupon that was only good for that night. So of course I had to do some shopping. I've been really into silk shirts the past year or so, and they happen to carry some designs by Equipment. I love this brand for their colors, and interesting patterns, so of course I had to purchase this top in my favorite color, purple.

Overall it was such an enjoyable night, and a great experience.
