Beauty Boxes and Sampling

There are quite a few ways to get product samples these days. You can request or receive with  purchase a sample in store, online, or you can purchase a beauty box subscription. "What is a beauty box?", you say. Well a beauty box subscription is available for different prices ranging from $10-40 per month, the number and size of the product or sample varies from month to month but averages at about 4 products per box. The boxes are often accompanied by a print or online guides explaining how to use the product, the brand and other products they offer, and even discount codes.

Glossy Box: The packaging is simply divine! I would almost say I am paying for the box and the products are a bonus. "Each month we curate a box of five luxury travel-sized beauty products for you to lather, blend, soak, spray, buff, and groom with. Indulge and experience luxury at its finest."
Products: 5-6 wellness and cosmetic samples
Price: $21/month, $60/3 months, $115/6 months or $220/12 months. Subscriptions are NOT automatically renewed.

Ipsy: Once you join the website, you set up a beauty profile and your samples are allegedly tailored to fit you. I'm not so sure how because it seems that everyone receives the same products...
Products: "Each month, subscribers will receive a beautiful Glam Bag with deluxe samples and full-sized beauty products." 
Price: $10/month. Payments are automatically deducted from your bank account, so just pay attention.

Julep Maven Box: This box is only nail polish. It seems cool, but I've never ordered...because I'm not that into nail polish.
Products: "Based on the results of your Julep Maven Style Quiz, we'll personally select products every month to best complement your unique style profile. Each box will feature over $40 worth of never-before-released polishes, cutting edge treatments and cult favorites." [Such a  vague response.]
Price: $20/month; You do get to preview the box online before it is sent out so you can skip  a month, send a box to a friend or possibly return/exchange.

My Brown Box: Beauty, Lifestyle & Luxury for Women of Color.
Products: 5-6 products

Wantable: A box full of full-size makeup! I'm in heaven with every box I receive.
Products:  4-6 full-sized makeup products
Price: $40 for one box or $36/month for a subscription. You have the option to preview the box before it is shipped and skip it (free of charge). You can also return the box if you are not satisfied.

We Are Onyx: This box features hair and skin products especially formulated for women of color.
Products: 5 samples, allegedly you pick 4 of them, but I haven't figured out how.

Requesting Samples
Contact companies giving specific details about your skin/hair concerns and beauty routines. Also you can ask at any beauty counter, makeup and beauty store, and most places are willing to give you samples to try at home.




Receiving all of these samples and new products has been a great experience. I found some new products to add to my beauty regimen (sorry I was just trying to be fancy), and learned that some companies have awesome customer service, and others not so much. Try for yourself!
